If I had to summarize my Oxford Scholars Program (OSP) experience in one word, it would be transformative. Coming from Dubai, I joined OSP full of excitement and curiosity.
I wasn’t shy at all — I was ready to jump into discussions, meet new people, and make the most of every moment. Still, I get it — the beginning can feel a little overwhelming because everything is new. But don’t panic! The mentors made it feel like home so quickly. They were genuinely warm, supportive, and truly inspiring. Their energy made all of us feel seen and welcome, and that’s when OSP really started to feel special.
- Say yes to everything. Every activity — whether a lecture, workshop, or late-night discussion — is an opportunity. Even if it’s outside your comfort zone, dive in. You’ll be surprised at what you discover about yourself.
- Don’t stress about being the smartest. OSP isn’t a competition. It’s about growth. Listen, learn, and share your perspective — that’s where the magic happens.
- Take notes — not just on paper, but in your heart. The people you meet, the moments you feel inspired, the feedback you receive — all of it shapes who you’ll become.
- Pack smart! Bring T-shirts, but also thick clothes and a raincoat — the weather changes fast. Definitely pack at least one pair of sneakers (just avoid white ones — mine got dirty so quickly from all the walking). And power banks — bring them! You’ll be out all day, and your phone is your lifeline. Most importantly, never leave your bag behind — seriously. One scholar lost their bag three times. Don’t be that person.
OSP helped me see that being a leader isn’t about being perfect — it’s about being present, engaged, and willing to try. And if you’re reading this as a future applicant or participant, I can’t wait for you to experience the same sense of possibility I felt.
