Course Tutor – Psychology

Job Title: Course Tutor – Psychology

About OSP

The Oxford Scholars Programme (OSP) is a prestigious summer school designed for high-achieving students aged 14–18 years from around the world. Our mission is to provide an intellectually stimulating academic experience that fosters personal growth, critical thinking, and lifelong skills.

We are seeking a dynamic Psychology academic to lead our Psychology course. This role invites you to bridge the gap between academic theory and the complexities of human behavior, guiding students through a rigorous exploration of the mind.

The Role

n this role, you are the academic lead for the Psychology cohort. You are responsible for transforming foundational concepts—cognition, social influence, and mental health—into a high-energy, university-style experience. You aren’t just delivering a curriculum; you are helping students design experiments and think like psychological researchers.

What You Will Own

  • Academic Delivery: Leading 9 days of interactive morning classes within this 14-day programme. You will take our 80% core content and add your own 20% “expert’s edge” to explore cognitive biases, developmental change, and abnormal psychology.
  • Experimental Workshops: Facilitating afternoon sessions where theory meets practice. You will guide students through experiment design and the development of public engagement projects, such as mental health awareness campaigns.
  • Material Design: While OSP provides the syllabus outline and handbook, you own the creation of all session materials. This includes designing professional slides/presentations, experimental handouts, and resource packs to ensure seamless, high-level delivery.
  • The “Tutorial” Experience: Managing a high-impact learning environment with a maximum of 10–12 students. This small class size allows you to provide the personalized mentorship and academic rigor characteristic of the Oxford tutorial system.
  • The Learning Environment: Fostering a classroom culture of intellectual curiosity and safety. You will model undergraduate-style learning, encouraging students to challenge stigma and engage in structured academic debate.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Owning 3 hours of marking to provide scholars with the critical feedback needed to refine their understanding of psychological methodologies.
  • Safeguarding & Wellbeing: Maintain awareness of student welfare and escalate concerns in line with programme safeguarding policies.

Compensation

  • Teaching: Approximately 31.5 teaching hours, paid £40–£50 per hour (dependent on expertise).
  • Preparation Time: 8 hours paid prep at £25 per hour.
  • Training: Paid induction at £25 per hour (typically 2–3 hours total).
  • Marking time: 3 hours of paid marking time at £25 per hour.
  • Total Estimated Compensation: £1,585 – £1,925 (includes teaching, prep, marking time and mandatory training).
