Course Tutor – Artificial Intelligence & Computer Science

Job Title: Course Tutor – Artificial Intelligence & Computer Science

About OSP

The Oxford Scholars Programme (OSP) is a prestigious summer school designed for high-achieving students aged 14–18 years from around the world. Our mission is to provide an intellectually stimulating academic experience that fosters personal growth, critical thinking, and lifelong skills.

We are seeking a specialist in AI and Computer Science to lead this high-tech course. This role is for an academic who can demystify complex algorithms and inspire students to build, code, and innovate using industry-standard tools like Python.

The Role

In this role, you are the technical lead for the AI & Computer Science cohort. You own the transition from theoretical computer science to applied artificial intelligence. You will guide students through the architecture of neural networks, the logic of algorithms, and the practicalities of model training.

What You Will Own

  • Technical Delivery: Leading 9 days of interactive morning classes within this 14-day programme. You will take our 80% core content and add your own 20% “expert’s edge” to explore machine learning, deep learning, and NLP. The course runs for 10 teaching days within this 14-day programme.
  • Coding & AI Workshops: Facilitating afternoon workshops where students build and experiment. You will support them in training machine learning models and developing projects like image classification tools or data analysis scripts.
  • The “Tutorial” Experience: Managing a high-impact learning environment with a maximum of 10–12 students. This small class size allows you to provide the personalized mentorship and academic rigor characteristic of the Oxford tutorial system.
  • Material Design: While OSP provides the syllabus outline and handbook, you own the creation of all session materials. This includes designing professional slides/presentations, coding exercise sheets, and technical resource packs to ensure seamless, high-level delivery.
  • University-Style Rigor: Modeling the “Oxford Tutorial” approach to STEM. You are responsible for fostering intellectual independence and problem-solving skills, preparing students for undergraduate-level computer science.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Owning 3 hours of marking/feedback to provide scholars with the technical critiques needed to refine their code and logic.
  • Safeguarding & Wellbeing: Maintain awareness of student welfare and escalate concerns in line with programme safeguarding policies.

Compensation

  • Teaching: Approximately 31.5 teaching hours, paid £40–£50 per hour (dependent on expertise).
  • Preparation Time: 8 hours paid prep at £25 per hour.
  • Training: Paid induction at £25 per hour (typically 2–3 hours total).
  • Marking time: 3 hours of paid marking time at £25 per hour.
  • Total Estimated Compensation: £1,585 – £1,925 (includes teaching, prep, marking time, and mandatory training).

Daily Format

Teaching typically follows the below format:

The course runs for 9 teaching days within a 14-day programme.
