About OSP
The Oxford Scholars Programme (OSP) is a prestigious summer programme designed for high-achieving students aged 14–18. Our mission is to provide an intellectually stimulating environment that fosters personal growth, critical thinking, and the development of the next generation of ethical leaders.
OSP is proud to collaborate with the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) in delivering a world-class summer programme for high school students in 2026.
The Role
When a module is taught well, students don’t just learn facts—they begin to think like clinicians. As the Medicine & Healthcare Module Tutor, you own the academic heartbeat of this programme. You are responsible for delivering a high-energy, university-style experience for high-achieving 14–18 year olds.
This is not a passive lecturing role. You are there to spark debate, facilitate clinical simulations, and bridge the gap between textbook theory and real-world medical ethics.
You will be provided with a structured module handbook, with 20% flexibility to incorporate your own expertise and teaching style. You will also be responsible for preparing course materials — including lecture slides, worksheets, etc — to support engaging and well-organised delivery of both lectures and workshops.
Module Overview
The Medicine & Healthcare module introduces students to core concepts in clinical medicine, biomedical science, and healthcare practice. Students explore scientific foundations alongside real-world clinical application, gaining insight into patient care, medical ethics, and healthcare systems. Topics include human anatomy and physiology, diagnostics, clinical reasoning, medical ethics, public health, and emerging medical technologies. Workshops include clinical skills simulations, patient case analysis, teamwork-based diagnostics, and discussions of contemporary healthcare challenges.
Teaching Schedule
Teaching typically follows the structure below:
- Morning Lectures: 09:00–11:00
- Afternoon Workshops: 14:00–16:00
Teaching usually takes place Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday sessions where required by the programme schedule.
The Medicine & Healthcare module runs for 7 teaching days within each 12-day programme.
Main duties
- Morning Lectures: Lead interactive lectures covering key medical topics while maintaining academic rigour and accessibility for mixed-ability learners, (classes of ~35–50 students, with a predominantly American cohort alongside an international student mix).
- Afternoon Workshops: Facilitate applied learning through case studies, diagnostic reasoning exercises, teamwork simulations, and ethical debates. Provide feedback and monitor student progress with support from Team Advisors (TAs).
- Mentorship & Culture: Create a classroom environment reflecting Oxford-style learning — challenging, inclusive, and discussion-led.
- Preparation & Resources: Organise teaching materials, models, and digital resources in advance and coordinate with staff for smooth delivery.
- Professional Skills Development: Support students in developing critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and reflective practice.
- Training & Collaboration: Attend induction training and guide TAs to support afternoon workshop engagement and logistics.
- Safeguarding & Wellbeing: Maintain awareness of student welfare and escalate concerns in line with programme safeguarding policies.
