Student Well-Being & Support
A Safe, Supportive Space to Learn and Grow
At the Oxford Scholars Programme, your child’s well-being is at the heart of everything we do. While our courses are academically challenging, we understand that students do their best learning when they feel safe, supported, and truly cared for. We create an environment where every scholar is listened to, encouraged, and looked after – not only in their academic journey, but in their personal growth as well – so parents can feel confident their child is in thoughtful, capable hands.
We understand that sending your child abroad for a pre-university summer programme in Oxford is a significant and deeply considered decision. That is why safeguarding, student welfare, and international student support are built into every stage of the programme – from application through to departure. Our trained staff provide clear guidance and continuous care, with a dedicated welfare team available 24/7 to support students whenever needed.

Supporting Your Child’s Well-Being for a Positive Summer Experience

We ask parents and scholars to confidentially disclose any medical conditions through our onboarding form once a place is confirmed. This allows our welfare team to plan appropriate support in advance. With parental consent, trained staff may administer basic medication such as paracetamol, while students retain responsibility for their own prescribed medicines. Where additional medical support is required, we work proactively to ensure access to qualified professionals near campus.

OSP is committed to creating an inclusive environment where every scholar can participate fully and confidently. We encourage families to share any accessibility needs or differently abled status early, enabling us to arrange reasonable adjustments in advance. Our approach focuses on empowerment, dignity, and equal opportunity—ensuring students can thrive academically and socially. Each request is handled sensitively and confidentially.

Student health and safety are our top priorities. Clear protocols are in place to respond swiftly to illness or emergencies, with welfare staff available 24/7. Parents are informed promptly when medical concerns arise, and students are supported with care and reassurance throughout. Where necessary, we coordinate access to local medical services to ensure appropriate professional care.
Dedicated Support for Each Student’s Unique Journey

Neurodivergent students bring exceptional creativity, insight, and unique ways of thinking, and we deeply value the perspectives they add to our community. At OSP, we warmly welcome students with special educational needs and are committed to supporting each individual with care, understanding, and respect.
Once a student is confirmed, families are invited to share any relevant learning or support information through our confidential onboarding form. This helps us understand each student’s needs and tailor our approach accordingly.
Our aim is to ensure that every scholar receives the specific support they need to feel comfortable, confident, and able to thrive throughout their time at OSP.
Where additional or more complex needs are identified, we work closely with students and families to create an Individual Student Support Agreement, outlining the most appropriate and supportive arrangements for the duration of the programme.

Student Safety & Wellbeing
Who looks after the scholars during the programme?
Scholar wellbeing is our top priority. At OSP, scholars are supported 24/7 by a team of dedicated Residential Advisors (RAs), Team Advisors, and Programme Staff throughout the Oxford summer school. All team members undergo safeguarding training, are enhanced DBS checked, and are carefully selected for their experience in mentoring young people.
How will I know my child has arrived safely?
Parents receive confirmation via email or text once their child checks in. Our team is available throughout travel days for real-time updates.
What if I don’t want to participate in a certain activity?
All activities are compulsory as part of the Oxford Scholars Programme. However, if a scholar is unable to participate in a specific activity due to health reasons or other circumstances, we will accommodate them and provide necessary support. In such cases, alternative quiet or on-campus options may be offered on a case-by-case basis to ensure the scholar’s well-being while maintaining their engagement with the programme.
Can parents stay with their child during the Oxford Scholars Programme?
Due to UK safeguarding laws and accreditation requirements, only registered students are permitted to stay in the college accommodation.
All scholars are supervised 24/7 by trained residential staff, with structured check-ins and dedicated welfare support to ensure their safety and wellbeing at all times.
Parents are welcome to visit their child during designated break times; however, accommodation within the college is reserved exclusively for OSP students.
What if there’s an emergency during the programme?
A senior member of staff is on call 24/7. Emergency protocols are in place, and parents are contacted immediately if urgent situations arise.
Do you cater to dietary restrictions and allergies?
Definitely. Our Oxford summer school provides meal options for scholars who are vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, or have other dietary needs. This information is collected via the student portal after acceptance.
