What is Stress?
Ever felt like your brain is about to explode with exam pressure, last-minute assignments, and everything else life throws at you? That’s stress! Some stress is totally normal and can even give you a boost (like when you miraculously finish an assignment five minutes before the deadline), but too much can wear you down. If you're constantly feeling anxious, irritable, or just plain exhausted, it might be time to hit pause and figure out how to manage that stress before it takes over.
Holistic development is a core part of our approach at the Oxford Scholars Programme. Explore our workshops to discover how we help students navigate stress and build resilience.
Common Stressors for Teenagers
School Stress: Exams, homework, grades—basically, the never-ending academic grind.
Social Stress: Whether it’s navigating the drama of friendships, dealing with the ups and downs of relationships, or managing the impossible perfection of social media, it can be hard to stay cool.
Personal Stress: Family disagreements, figuring out your future, or even just worrying about how you’re doing can pile up and become overwhelming.
Easy Mindfulness Techniques
Deep Breathing Exercise: This is your go-to move when you’re freaking out.
Sit down somewhere comfy, close your eyes, and focus on breathing.
Inhale for three seconds, hold it, then exhale slowly.
Pay attention to how your breath feels—calm and steady—just like you will be after this!
Mindful Art Exercise: Art + stress relief = win-win.
Grab a pencil, some colors, and doodle your stress away. Whether it’s drawing how you feel or just scribbling random stuff, putting your emotions on paper can help calm your mind.
Positive Thinking and Gratitude: Your Daily Uplift
Being positive isn’t about pretending everything is perfect (we know it’s not), but it’s about looking for the bright spots even when things are tough.
How to Stay Positive:
Gratitude Journaling: Write down things you're grateful for each day, no matter how small.
Affirmations: Use positive statements like, “I can handle this,” to boost your confidence.
Surround Yourself with Positivity: Spend time with people who support and uplift you.
Stress is a part of life, but it doesn’t have to overwhelm you. With the right tools, you can manage it and keep moving forward. So next time life feels a bit too much, pause, breathe, and remember—you've got this!
