Enhancing Communication, Writing, and Critical Thinking through Debating
Overview
This course offers students the opportunity to improve their English literature comprehension, critical analysis abilities, and essay writing skills. Students will engage with a variety of canonical texts spanning different time periods. Each lesson will include discussions on selected extracts from 1-2 literary works across genres—such as poetry and prose—with scanned PDFs provided for reference, all framed around thought-provoking, critical questions.
Module Structure
Prior to each class, relevant reading materials will be distributed, with specific readings assigned for preparation. Lessons will start with a two-hour lecture focused on discussing the set texts and critical questions as a group, led by the teacher with active student participation.
A two-hour workshop session will follow every lecture, in which students will be asked to apply what they have learned in their analysis of set extracts.
