Job Description

Job Title: Module Tutor – Engineering

Location: St Hugh’s College, Oxford

Compensation: £40 per hour

Number of hours: 40 hours per programme

Contract Type: Short-term

Programme Dates:

7th–16th July 2025
21st- 30th July 2025
5th-14th August 2025

Teaching typically follows the below timings:

• Lectures: 09:00–11:00

• Project Tutorials: 14:00–16:00

This innovative module introduces students to foundational concepts in various branches of engineering through engaging, hands-on projects. Areas of focus include introduction to various engineering disciplines:

• Engineering Design & Methods

• Aerospace Engineering

• Electrical Engineering

• Materials Science and Engineering

• Civil Engineering & Drone Applications

• Computer Engineering

• Biomedical Engineering & Ethics

Curriculum Design: Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with OSP’s engineering module syllabus and learning objectives.
Hands-On Instruction: Deliver dynamic lessons and project tutorials, integrating practical demonstrations to bring complex engineering concepts to life.
Student Engagement: Inspire and mentor students, fostering curiosity and critical thinking in the field of engineering.
Assessment and Feedback: Design assessments and provide constructive, personalized feedback to support student progress and skill development.
Resource Development: Create comprehensive instructional materials, including handouts, and presentation slides.
Collaborative Efforts: Work closely with OSP staff and fellow educators to ensure a cohesive and impactful learning experience.
Administrative Duties: Manage daily attendance, prepare student progress reports, and ensure timely feedback and grading.
Ethical Standards: Promote a safe, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating learning environment while upholding OSP’s guidelines and values.

Engineering Expertise: Proficient in drone assembly, sensor integration, programming, mapping, and prototyping, with a broad understanding of multiple engineering disciplines.
Inspirational Educator: Passionate about teaching and motivating young minds using innovative, hands-on methods.
Adaptability: Skilled at tailoring teaching strategies to accommodate diverse student needs, learning styles, and cultural backgrounds.
Strong Communication: Exceptional ability to convey complex concepts clearly and engagingly.
Organizational Skills: Effective time management and multitasking abilities to balance teaching and administrative responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications:

A Master’s degree or a PhD in Engineering or a related discipline.
Prior teaching experience, preferably in tutorial settings at Oxford.
Experience working with 14–18-year-olds.
Proven expertise in designing and delivering academic content for young learners.
